Sculpted by hand, finished in light.

From my studio on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, I design and handcraft porcelain lighting that bridges sculpture and function. Each piece begins as liquid clay poured into a mould I’ve made myself, then shaped and refined by hand.

It’s a slow and intricate process. Few pieces can be made each day, and no two are ever the same. The result is porcelain lighting with a soft translucency and natural warmth that can’t be replicated by machine.

I aim to create lighting that does more than illuminate - pieces that bring depth, calm, and quiet beauty to the spaces they inhabit.

Each finished light glows with its own character, shaped by the meeting of human touch, clay and light.

Handcrafted in Sydney's Northern Beaches

I believe lighting should do more than brighten a room - it should transform it. My designs explore the balance between sculpture and function, where form, shadow, and texture work together to create warmth and intimacy.

Each piece reflects my fascination with light as something living, constantly shifting, softening, and shaping the spaces we inhabit.

“Light has memory, it carries warmth, emotion, and atmosphere. That’s what I try to capture.”

Concious design.

Sustainability sits at the centre of my practice. Working in small batches and making to order allows me to minimise waste and maintain the highest level of craftsmanship.

Every decision made, from material sourcing to finishing, reflects a commitment to thoughtful, sustainable design. My goal is to create lighting that lasts, both in its quality, age and meaning.

  • Any cracked or imperfect pieces are recycled before firing and returned to their liquid state to start the process anew and reduce and waste.

  • The lights are  raw fired to a midfire temperatue. This results in less energy needed to create my pieces  without compromising strength.

  • Energy-efficient LED fittings and recycled packaging are used wherever possible.

Meet the maker.

My name is Helena Blackstock

I am a Sydney-based ceramicist with over six years’ experience in making functional ceramics. My creative path began in London working in branding and jewellery design, before moving to Sydney in 2006 where I retrained as a midwife. Ceramics later became both a creative focus and a grounding practice, offering me space for exploration, focus, and making by hand.
